After graduating Woodlawn, I lived in Shreveport
for several years while working at Bell South, before relocating to Sherman, Texas, to work at Texas Instruments. While working at T.I. and attending Calvary Baptist Church in Sherman, I met James Perry, and we married
a year and a half later. We adopted our son, Jack Perry in 1987.
In 1988, I became an assistant manager over Cash
Operations for Aramark Dining Services at Austin College, where James has been employed with the Campus Police Department
since 1982. While with Aramark Dining Services, I received several promotions,
first to the University of Texas at Arlington in 1994, then to the Texas Instruments, where I was later promoted to Dining
Service Director. From Aramark, I then became a Dining Service Director for Sodexho-Marriott
Services. Between the two companies, I served at multiple locations including
TI, EDS, Computer Associates and Campbell’s Soup, often being utilized to open new accounts, or as a troubleshooter
that could help improve and retain problem accounts.
Since my employment kept me in the Dallas area,
and James was employed in Sherman, we moved to Allen, Texas in 1995 to position ourselves between our respective jobs. While in Allen, we became very active in school activities and in the Youth Department
and other areas of the ministry of Allen Heights Baptist Church.
In 2002, we moved back to Sherman. I had begun plans for an early retirement, when I was injured on the job.
James is currently a Sergeant and Patrol Supervisor with the police department.
I attended my first Woodlawn reunion in 2002, where I really had a great time and enjoyed meeting friends I had not
seen in years.
