I left for Memphis, TN with
my family the same night of our graduation ceremony and have basically been here ever since.
I tried returning to Shreveport after a few months, but the old adage that “you can’t go home again”
proved true for me. After graduation everyone had scattered and I found that
I missed my family and needed to be close to them again so I moved back to Memphis.
I’d love to live in Nashville or anywhere other than Memphis, but - - my husband of almost 28 years won’t
budge!
I had lots of menial jobs
right out of high school and then I lucked out getting a job training horses for Loretta Lynn.
That job led to a friendship with her and a job on the road with Loretta for two years as her road manager. It was great, and I had the best time of my life, but traveling 340 days out of the year left me no time
for a love life and at 20, I came back to Memphis in hopes of finding “someone”. I have kept in touch with Loretta through the years and still see her quite often,
and I can tell you she is one incredible lady!
I decided it was time for
a grown up job and I went to work for IBM. That’s where I met my husband;
Stew (my “someone”). Layoffs and restructures sent me to two more
computer companies before I was fortunate enough to retire five years ago along with my husband. How did we ever find time to work?
We have three daughters,
Ashley 26, Courtney 21, and Whitney 17. The oldest two are going to nursing school
and the youngest is working on a singing career that hopefully she’ll back up with a degree of some sort. Ashley is married and has a son, Dalton, who just turned 6.
We live on a
beautiful 35 acre lake where I can walk out my back door and fish. I deer hunt with a passion, ride my motorcycle, travel often, and keep my grandson whenever I’m home! Life is wonderful, my glass is always half full, and I’m excited for everyday
that I have. If it ended tomorrow – I couldn’t complain!
