Hello Fellow Classmates. Just thought I would drop you a note to let you know what has been going on with me since graduation. Well here it goes….
After leaving Woodlawn, I
went to Louisiana
Tech University in Ruston. I went thru a 5 year Architectural program
and graduated, in 1977, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and a minor in Engineering. After graduation, I went to work for Kelly and Doughty Architects, in Bossier
City, where I later became a licensed Architect and a partner, and the firm name was changed to Kelly,
Doughty and Young Architects. In 1994, Slack, Alost, Miremont and Associates,
in Shreveport, bought our firm and I went there as Vice President
of Production Drawings and Construction. In 1996, I joined the firm of Richard
LeBlanc Architects, in Shreveport, and in 2005, Richard and
I became partners and the firm name was changed to LeBlanc and Young Architects, Inc.
I have done Architectural work in
Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas
and Nevada. All
the firms I have been with designed mostly educational buildings, churches, office buildings, banks and hospitals. Some of the more notable buildings, where I was part of the Architectural team, are the Stockwell Place
Elementary School, the Biomedical Research Building at LSU Health Science Center, Pediatrics Renovations at LSU Health Science
Center, the Feist Weiller Cancer Treatment Center at LSU Health Science Center, the Caddo Parish Juvenile Justice Center,
the renovations to the Shreveport Regional Airport, the first phase of the Sci-Port Discovery Center, Art Space in downtown
Shreveport, a magic shop in the Stratosphere mall in Las Vegas, the Athletic Administration Building for LSU Baton Rouge,
located next to Tiger Stadium and just 100’s of other new buildings and renovations of existing buildings.
The summer of 1975, I married Diane
Adcock. Diane graduated in 1974 from Southwood
High School. We lived in
Hodge, Louisiana, while I
finished up at Tech. After graduation we moved back to Shreveport and I went to work for Kelly and Doughty Architects and she went to work for Pioneer
Mortgage Corporation, owned by Pioneer Bank & Trust Co. After Pioneer Bank
was bought out by Hibernia Bank, Diane went back to school and obtained her Bachelor Degree in Education. She went to work for the Caddo Parish School system as a 4th grade
teacher. While teaching, she obtained her Master’s Degree, her plus 30
hours from LSUS, and just this summer, she graduated from LSU Baton Rouge with an Educational Specialist Degree. She is currently working as an Instructional Coordinator at Sunset
Acres Elementary School. Her next step is Doctor Diane! We will
see if that happens!!
We have 2 sons, Craig is 28 and
Bryan is 25. We
stayed really involved with them when they were going up, playing soccer, boy scouts, etc. I’m proud to say that both
of them became Eagle Scouts and have turned out to be fine young men. Craig graduated
from LSUS and Bryan is currently in school at LSUS. Neither one of them are married yet….so no grandkids.
In 1998, the week after July 4th,
I had a heart attack. I was a diabetic and didn’t know it. I survived of course after having 3 stints put in and 9 years later, I’m still doing alright from
that experience. (Just having to deal with the diabetic situation, diet, shots
and the junk that goes along with that.)
Diane and I love to travel. We have been on numerous cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico,
and Alaska. We
have been all over the United States, including a couple of trips to Hawaii and Alaska. Julie Hall Thomas actually set up our first trip to Hawaii
and I think it was our best trip ever. We love to go to Branson, Missouri.
Had to buy a condo there we went so much and my family owns a house in Lake
Greeson in Arkansas. We spend a lot of weekends there in the summer.
Well I didn’t mean to sit
here and write a book…but that is 35 years in a nut shell…so to speak.
